Shingeki no Kyojin || Sara Falkenrath || Template (c) ZombiesAreBeautiful

Introduction.

Name: Sara Falkenrath

Meaning:

Sara meaning 'soul'

Falkenrath meaning 'keeper of the falcons'

- 'Soul of the Falcons'

Nickname(s)/Also Known As:

Sara has never had many nicknames since her own name is so short. Her parents were known to call her Ra on occasion and her uncle used to call her Canary, joking that she wasn't fierce enough to be a falcon.

Alias (if any):

- Eva Blake;

Sara always used to wish her parents had called her Eva as she had adored the name since childhood, so when asked for an alias when going undercover for the first time – her mind immediately jumped to Eva. The surname simply came from trial and error and working out what names sounded most natural to her.

Age: 28

Gender: Female

Species: Human

Race: German

Birthday: August 23rd

Birthplace: Wall Sina, Stohess District.

Current Residence: Beyond the Walls.

Military Information (for trainees or members of the Survey Corps/Garrison/Military Police).

Life-Long Dream: To simply have a safe place to go back to after expeditions.

Goal(s): To make it back to inside the Walls, to use the knowledge she's gained to help the military and to live long enough to see the Titans defeated.

Affiliation: Survey Corps

Former Affiliation: None

Position/Rank: Team Leader

Status (Alive, Missing, etc.): Technically alive but has been marked down as missing in action/likely deceased.

(Optional) If anything but alive tell what happened: An expedition a few months back went seriously wrong and Sara was separated from her team. She assumed that most of them were dead and attempted to circle back to get to the wall again. Sara was lucky – she still had her horse and her 3DMG and so, she thought she had a chance. Until a titan attacked her at the edge of a forest. Her horse was killed from under her and Sara took to the trees. She took out that titan and has been on the run ever since, attempting to loop back to the walls and always being intercepted by titans.

Appearance.

Animated FC:

Black Canary (DC Comics) / Link

Height:

Sara stands at an average height of 5ft 6 inches, placing her at four inches taller than Levi, one inch shorter than Eren and the same height as Ester Dahl.

Weight:

Approx. 120 lbs (currently slightly underweight)

Hair style (Always Down, Always Up, etc.):

Sara's hair falls to just past her shoulders in waves when left down. However, she always has it up, usually in a tight topknot or even occasionally braids it then puts it in a bun as it keeps it out of her way and makes it harder for titans to grab.

Hair Colour:

As a child, Sara had warm golden coloured locks that literally seemed to shine and this continued right into adulthood. Since being stranded on the other side of the wall, however, her hair has dulled right down until it's almost straw like. It'll gain its lustre back when she makes it to civilisation again.

Eye Color:

Bright, electric blue.

Skin Tone:

Sara has smooth, slightly tanned skin with flushes of pink across her cheeks. She has many freckles scattered across her cheeks, most of them concentrated directly under her eyes and across the bridge of her nose. She tans relatively well but always burns before she tans. Her complexion is pretty clear.

Body Shape/Build:

With a naturally fast metabolism and having spent months on the run, Sara is athletic, although her muscle tone is starting to weaken due to bad nutrition. She has a very slight hourglass figure, although she usually binds her breasts when using her 3DMG to reduce air resistance, allowing her smoother flight. She has toned legs, powerful arms and a strong core from working with her equipment but is desperate need of food as she cannot keep up her current level of exertion for much longer.

Birth Marks:

None.

Scar(s):

Sara's body is positively covered in scars with many lines and patches covering her skin, to the point that almost 20% of her skin is covered with scar tissue. She has at least six fractures that have never healed correctly and a few open wounds on her body still.

Clothing (optional):

Sara has only the clothes on her back at the minute – her military outfit which consists simply of the standard military jacket, trousers with braces and a white button-down shirt underneath. She has long since lost her cloak, her shirt is more red than white now and her jacket has been torn to make bandages so many times that it now only just comes to below her breasts.

Skeleton Plots (a.k.a. Plot ideas/suggestions to try out):

Character-centric;

- Sara's story sort of became a bit of a tale between some of the newer Survey Corps recruits – they knew what happened to her and who had been on her team before they had even met her. A select few even idolized her and her team, amazed at their bravery. The news of her return sparked a flurry of chatter amongst them all. They were desperate to meet her and find out everything about how she had survived. When they did meet her, they realised that she wasn't quite the hero they had imagined her to be.

- While Sara is staying near the Scouting Legion headquarters, a canary fledgling takes to landing on her window sill every morning and waiting for food or to be fussed over. It lands on her window one morning in great distress and it's on that morning that Sara takes the canary into her house and gives it a home. She keeps the canary in a simple silver cage with a scarlet cover that she uses at night to give the canary peaceful sleep. She calls the bird Saffron and finds it reminds her of her uncle and the nickname he gave her as a child.

- Sara has a large coin that her father gave her as a child (it's a wonder she hasn't lost it yet) and has a habit of rolling it across her knuckles. It's something her father taught her how to do and really, she does it so compulsively because it helps her feel close to him at all times.

Relationship-centric;

- When she first gets back over the wall, Sara runs into someone [actual person is undecided] whom she hasn't met before. When she's introduced, the other person rambles a little and says; "I was happy to hear you weren't dead anymore. I mean, I didn't know before you didn't die the first time...I'm still glad you're alive." to which Sara replies "You're cute" and smirks a little.

- After Sara and Benji become friendly, she pushes him to train with her, alarmed at just how little he could deal with violence. He caves and they train, using Sara's bo staffs. Sara accidentally lands a solid hit to Benji's stiff shoulder and he collapses in pain. She, at first, is unsympathetic until she realises Benji is genuinely hurt, at which point she picks him up and takes him straight to Ester Dahl. Sara then hovers around him for the rest of the day, ensuring he's okay. Benji then apologizes for being weak, causing Sara to break down in tears because she was so goddamn worried and why the hell did he not tell her and how did she manage to pass on her fear of being weak to him.

- Sara gets over the wall and, before Ester can even properly start her fussing, Hanji grabs the blonde by her jacket lapels and demands to know everything about what she saw beyond the wall. It takes both Arielle Lefevre and Moblit Berner to pry the overexcited scientist off Sara. Sara sits and gestures for Hanji to do the same. She does but drags the chair forward so their noses are almost touching. Sara agrees to tell her everything but regardless of this, Hanji (and by association Arielle) follows Sara everywhere for at least a week, even flirting occasionally, although Sara's sure there's something going on between Arielle and Hanji.

- Ester Dahl and Sara clash almost immediately after meeting. Sara is irritated by the woman's fussing and repeatedly bats her away. This only serves to confuse Ester while Sara insists she's fine, despite blood pouring from a gash on her thigh (featuring the 'T'is but a flesh wound' section of dialogue from Monty Python). Ester lets the girl go but watches her everywhere, even following her up the salmon ladder to get her down. The two eventually become friends, although Sara likes to pretend she dislikes the woman.

- A while after her return, Sara visits the library at the Scouting Legion headquarters only to find herself confronted by Armin, Ester and Benji who all look at her like she doesn't belong there, making a few snarky comments. Sara simply rolls her eyes and rattles off a scientific equation that seems to impress them and they beckon her over. She pretends she's completely exasperated but she joins them anyway and spends hours there sometimes.

Personality:

-Basic traits;

Cold, brutal, closed off, independent, vengeful, strong sense of justice and honour, remorseful, unforgiving, stoic, sarcastic, intelligent, fierce, loyal, good heart, strong willed, strategic, restless, adaptable, courageous, determined, rational, realist, curious, efficient, honest, trustworthy, more of a leader than a follower, energetic, disciplined, calm.

-Extension;

Before being stranded, Sara was a skilled but reckless and vivacious woman who wasn't the most strategic but made up for it with her great agility and courage. Naturally, this changed beyond the walls and she underwent a personality shift.

Previously a kind and open woman, Sara would gladly offer help without much care for her own health. However, she is much more careful now and far more reluctant to freely offer her aid unless people are in danger of being hurt or killed. Fiercely independent and incredibly self sufficient, she hates to admit when she's weak or when she needs help, which is likely to be her downfall. However, her new found independence has served her well out beyond the walls, allowing her to survive without needing anyone to 'watch her back', as the phrase goes. She's a natural leader with a talent for commanding others efficiently and effectively, hence why she made a rather good Team Leader before the incident that resulted in her stranding. She used to be incredibly compassionate in her leading but as she spent longer outside the walls, she's grown harsher, although she doesn't mind to hurt

Sara used to make an effort to keep herself looking fairly presentable but all of that went out the window when survival became her first priority.

Despite all her trials, Sara's humour has survived despite everything. She has a quick wit and a sharp tongue, with a very dry sense of humour. Often people think she's just blasé about her situation but, in reality, her sarcasm and black humour is simply another coping mechanism to help repress the horror of what she went through. But, as much as she jokes about it, Sara fears death. She fears the pain of dying and, ultimately, she fears the nothingness that comes after it.

Vengeful and brutal, Sara can be an incredibly vicious woman, especially when she's fighting titans. Her temper isn't that short with humans but her rage, suppressed and capped, flows free when she fights and it's clear in her movements. She fights with strategic attacks but a wild rage that's always brewing just under the surface of her controlled moves. With a determined streak a mile wide, Sara consistently refuses to give up when faced with a new challenge and will do anything possible to ensure she beats said challenge. She's fierce and loyal and, although she doesn't let people in easily, she will lay down her life to protect those that do manage to find a place in her heart.

Despite all the anger and violence Sara often shows, she's a rational being with high levels of intelligence. She's rather strong in strategic situations but her real talent lies in her adaptability. Due to her fast thinking, she's quick to react to her surroundings and her best plans are made suddenly in the heat of battle.

Sara greatly dislikes anyone fussing over and always has done. She says that it's because she doesn't see the point in it since everyone in this world should be able to stand on their own two feet. In reality, it's because she hates feeling weak. People who hover around her annoy her to no end and so, she rarely lets on when she's only injured mildly. With a high tolerance for pain, Sara has been known to continue fighting off titans and the likes with a broken wrist and barely even noticing. When someone she loves or cares for is injured though, she's almost as bad as Ester Dahl or occasionally worse as she just hovers in the corner and watches like some sort of guardian. This means that deaths of her friends hits her very hard and she will almost certainly retreat into herself and possibly not speak unless completely necessary. This black mood usually lasts a few day, but if it's a soldier that Sara doesn't know or care for that dies, she'll show her respects certainly but isn't nearly as affected.

With such a strong sense of honour and justice, it's a wonder that Sara didn't choose to go into the Military Police – she certainly had the ranking for it. She has a very high moral compass and knows exactly what she's willing to do and what she isn't. Although she has no qualms about killing titans or killing to eat, she's much more squeamish about killing humans. If someone was threatening her life and was due to attack her, she would attack first but she certainly wouldn't feel happy about it and it would more than likely cause her some anxiety afterwards. Sara is comfortable in her beliefs and her perception of justice but can also accept that not everyone shares her views and that's okay by Sara.

Sara is actually very curious and, although the woman sort of bemuses her and hell – even makes her a bit uneasy, Hanji's work on the titans intrigues her. She's constantly looking for knowledge and positively drinks it in – never being able to know enough about the world. She asks people a lot of questions yet it never looks like she's on the hunt for knowledge as she poses her questions so casually, almost sounding bored.

Sara used to be a very flirtatious woman and has had her fair share of one night stands. However, she's lost a lot of this vivaciousness over the months spent alone. Once she returns to her full health, she's still very physically attractive and so, still has a few nights spent with men and women alike. She finds that she can't immediately form a romantic connection with someone, despite trying to date a few times. It simply doesn't work and she needs to trust these people before she can even think of opening her heart that much to them. She does enjoy physical affection though, so long as it doesn't catch her unawares – otherwise the person is likely to end up on the floor with either a weapon or Sara's fist placed at their throat.

Sara's presence is both awe inspiring and terrifying which is a feat that no one's quite sure how she manages, which actually suits her rather well.

Like(s):

Sunlight, the daytime, cold water, the colour green, the smell of fresh grass, climbing trees, horses, dogs, dreams, stories, being around other people, climbing trees and she vaguely remembers liking red berries but she's never sure if that's simply a dream she's had.

Dislike(s):

Titans, spiders, most insects, being alone, tea, coffee, bullies, pain, being injured, the sight of her scars, the thought that she'll never make it home, wine, the wild food she's surviving on, her family, small spaces.

Bad Habit(s):

Socially;

- Doesn't trust others easily

- Finds it hard to open up

- Overly harsh at times

- Puts her own survival above her teammates.

Mentally;

- Blames herself for everything

- Takes the weight of the world on her shoulders

- Will never give a second chance

- Speaks to herself in a cruel manner

Physically;

- Fights too hard and for too long

- Can only sleep in high places

- Will turn to drink

- Bone fractures haven't healed quite correctly – although she still has full mobility/agility.

Hobbies:

None currently. Will take up kickboxing, stick fighting and gymnastics.

Fear(s):

Titans (and she feels this fear has saved her life many times), never making it home, not being able to help the military, being afraid for the rest of her life, dying alone, small spaces where she can be trapped or feels trapped.

Health

Memory:

Sara's memory used to be top notch with every piece of information she'd ever need stored in there. After she ended up beyond the walls, her memory became less focused on details and more on the broad strokes of survival. She can't tell you the date or sometimes even the year, but she remembers what plants are edible, which are poisonous, what 3DMG moves work best in more open forests and which work best in tight spaces.

Sight:

Sara has 20/20 vision and her sight is pretty damn good. She can spot edible plants from a decent distance in the air, roughly about 30-40 metres up, although her short distance vision is ever so slightly better than her long distance vision.

Mental:

Sara is a bit of wreck when it comes to her mental health and she's fully aware of this. She's completely focused on survival, her sanity is beginning to splinter and truly, she's more of an animal than a human currently. With her every instinct turned to surviving, Sara's sleeping patterns are entirely screwed up, she's constantly irritable, hyper vigilant at all times and often feels hopeless and/or depressed. She refuses to admit and will continue to deny it for a long while but it's clear to anyone that sets eyes on her that Sara is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, despite not even being finished with her trauma yet.

Physical:

Sara is incredibly strong and incredibly fierce. However, since she has a naturally fast metabolism, she burns through calories like nothing on earth. This means that she's slightly underweight from not getting enough food beyond the walls. However, she can still slay titans like nothing on earth.

Sleep Patterns:

Sara runs purely on adrenaline a lot of time and so, she rarely sleeps. She occasionally goes for multiple days with only a few hours sleep at a time. When she does sleep, she sleeps very lightly and can be awoken by the slightest of noises. She always wakes up alert and ready to move again, her hands immediately on her blades. Sara can only sleep in high places as she knows that she's only safe up high.

Therapeutic Activity (if they have one):

None as of yet. Kickboxing becomes very therapeutic for her.

Relationships.

Parent(s):

Lars Falkenrath (deceased) - Father - Paul Blackthorne - Tim Marcoh (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Sara's father died when Sara was only eight years old – lost to a disease that they just couldn't cure fast enough. Sara had always been close with her father, although he often came close to tearing his hair out when dealing with his more troublesome daughter (Anya was always much easier to deal with than Sara). The two loved each other dearly though and Sara was devastated when her father died. She rarely speaks about him now but if she ever did, there's only one story she would tell and that would be the story of the last gift he ever gave her.

Elke Falkenrath (50) - Mother - Alex Kingston - Keiko Kanzaki (Medorei Okasareta Houkago)

Sara and her mother never got along. Elke was too soft to deal with the way that Sara would act out after her father's death and Sara was too troublesome for her mother to truly love her the way Elke loved Anya. It was always a source of contention in their house with Anya constantly being the source of her mother's affection while Sara was pushed to the side. Nowadays, Sara pretends Elke doesn't even exist – that she perished with the same disease that her father contracted. It's much easier to say that your mother's dead instead of trying to explain that the woman hates Sara and always has.

Sibling(s):

Anya Falkenrath (civilian; 30) – Sister – Katie CassidyRan Tao (Bleach)

Anya and Sara used to be best friends as kids. Anya protected her younger sister from bullies (in reality, Anya stopped her sister from getting into too many fights) and Sara used to persuade Anya to go exploring with her. These exploring trips always got them in trouble and Anya always immediately pinned the blame on Sara. Sara would take her punishment gracefully because it was always worth it.

This all changed when their father died. Sara became harder to hold back from fights and would regularly come home beaten and bruised with a worried looking Anya trailing behind. While Sara was getting screamed at by their mother, Anya would slope off outside again to meet up with her friends and boyfriend. Not that her mother ever seemed to care what Anya did. This made Sara incredibly bitter towards her sister. Why did she get to do whatever she wanted while Sara was stuck in the house because her mother 'didn't trust her'.

It ultimately caused many arguments between the two sisters and drove them apart. They could barely pass each other in the hall of their house without glaring at each other and sparking an argument. And when they argued, boy could they go for it. They would scream at each other until their voices went hoarse and then they'd lapse into angry silence which could last for several days. Until one of them looked at the other one wrong and then they'd be at each other's throats again.

Their worst argument came when Sara told her mother and sister that she was going to join the Survey Corps. Anya freaked and started throwing things across the room at Sara, screaming that Sara was betraying them and would die out there and if she did, Anya wouldn't care. Her words hurt more than Sara expected – possibly because Sara hoped that channeling her fighting into a better cause would make her family a little proud but no, it did the opposite. Anya said that she didn't want to see Sara ever again so Sara left that night.

What Sara doesn't know is that Anya made a small makeshift gravestone for Sara when she didn't return from her mission. Anya mourned her sister and tried to take back her words. Sara doesn't know this and likely never will because she believes she's honouring her sister's wishes by never going back.

Other Relative(s):

Oskar Falkenrath (Garrison; 42) – Uncle – Florian David FitzKageyama (Fairy Tail)

Oskar Falkenrath was Sara's hero as a child and she literally hung on his every word. He used to visit the family fairly regularly, if only to see Sara. For as much as Sara adored Oskar, Oskar doted on her even more. If asked, he would say he loved both his nieces equally but it was clear he favoured Sara over Anya, probably because Sara was that little bit more troublesome – exactly like him as a child.

When Lars died, Oskar's visits became a little more frequent, constantly checking up to see if Sara was okay. It was one day when he came in and found her sitting sullenly in her room, blood smeared down her face, knuckles bleeding and a positively thunderous expression. And when he asked if she was okay, he honestly was concerned. But when Sara quipped that he should see the other guy, he had to laugh. Then he offered to give her fighting lessons in secret.

Of course she jumped at the chance and they started their lessons not long after. Sara was a good student but certainly not the best fighter. Oskar noted this and decided to teach her a style of fighting that, although it wasn't commonly seen in the military, would suit her much better. So he taught her a style focused mainly on agility and strategy that he called capoeria. Here, Sara excelled.

When she told Oskar that she wanted to join the Survey Corps, he was the only one who supported her decision. He told her that she would make a magnificent addition to the Corps and made her promise to come back and see him whenever she could. While beyond the wall, her only thought about her family was that Oskar would be worried out of his mind if she didn't get back soon. She'll go and see him once she's back over the wall and in full health again.

Allies:

None currently. Later the Survey Corps and 104th Trainee Squad.

Notable Relationships:

When she first arrives back over the wall, she finds she scares a few of the new recruits. However, the one that appears to be most uneasy around her is a boy by the name of Benjamin Rothwell. He refuses to look at her for the longest times and people try to get them alone together multiple times just to watch Benji squirm. She confronts the boy eventually and when he explains that he's intimidated by her, Sara bursts out laughing and calls him cute. Sara then begins to tease Benji a little because it's practically irresistible and eventually, the pair become practically like brother and sister, not that Sara would ever admit that she has a soft spot for the boy.

--

As a part of the 34th expedition squad, Sara was close with all of her team. In particular however, she was close with a woman called Ilse Langnar. When the rest of the team were killed, only Sara and Ilse survived so naturally they came to rely on each other. They fell in love beyond the walls and consistently promised each other only one thing; that they would go home together. They spoke about getting home and marrying each other at nights, when they were curled up in the fork of a fifty foot tree and they found scraps of light amongst the darkness together. Until a titan attacked them one day and they were forced to split up. This was when Sara became so intensely focused on survival, trying to follow the plan she and Ilse had drawn up. They would circle around and meet at Wall Maria. So Sara forces herself to stay alive for at least that long. When she makes it back over the wall, she's bloody and beaten and broken but the first thing she asks is whether Ilse made it. No one knows how to break it to her. When she finally finds out, Sara breaks down as soon as she's alone, blaming herself for Ilse's death. She holds the belief that she should have given Ilse her 3DMG and maybe then, Ilse would have made it back. On her more bitter days, Sara wishes that it was Ilse who had made it. Not because she feels Ilse should have lived...no, on Sara's bitter days, she wishes Ilse would have lived instead of her because then Sara wouldn't have to be going through this pain.

Darius Baer-Varbrun*, Pere*, Jurgen*, Dieter*, Keith Shadis, Nile Dok, Dot Pixis, Reiner Braun*, Connie Springer*

Enemies:

Hero(es):

As a kid, Sara would have undoubtedly said that her hero was her uncle, Oskar. Oskar is no longer her hero. She feels that, although he's a good man and incredible in her eyes, she finally feels on par with him. She survived beyond the walls, that had to count for something. If pressed for a hero, she would reluctantly have to say either Ester Dahl or Hanji Zoe. Because, as much as everyone who fights titans are amazing and brave, those two help most in the long run. Ester saves lives through medicine and Hanji saves future lives through research and that's a truly amazing thing in Sara's eyes.

Rival(s):

Sara refuses to have rivals. She finds the concept a little petty and is secure enough in herself to know that she's valuable. She doesn't mind training other, in fact she enjoys sharing the knowledge that her uncle gave to her as a child and so, despite her intimidating demeanour, she's a good teacher. She knows that she would only be replaced if absolutely necessary and she'd like to think that she wouldn't be bitter if it ever came to that.

Even in her family, Sara didn't bother competing with Anya for their mother's affections because, even at eight years old, Sara understood that Anya was always going to be the favourite child and she really didn't mind. She didn't want her mother's affections anyway – she just wanted to spend all her time with her uncle so Anya was welcome to her mother's love. There is an animosity between the sisters but it's hardly a rivalry – more like they simply clash quite spectacularly.

Her uncle taught her a simple but ancient technique that allows her to raise or lower her own body temperature at will which greatly helped her to survive beyond the wall.

Sara has been known to punch people who call her a bitch. This happens more often if she's in a bad mood but she's always hated that word and always will.

She has a habit of calling everyone 'kid' regardless of their age.
